Leave entitlement

  1. Annual Leave: Employees in Malaysia are granted paid annual leave, and the number of days depends on their length of service with the company:
  • One to two years of service: Eight days of annual leave.
  • Two to five years of service: 12 days of annual leave.
  • More than five years of service: 16 days of annual leave.

 

  1. Sick Leave: Full-time employees are entitled to paid sick leave based on their years of service with the company:
  • Less than two years of service: 14 days of sick leave.
  • Two to five years of service: 18 days of sick leave.
  • More than five years of service: 22 days of sick leave.

 

  1. Hospitalisation Leave: In cases of hospitalization, employees are eligible for an additional 60 days of hospitalization leave per year, on top of their sick leave entitlement.

 

  1. Maternity Leave: Female employees in the private sector are entitled to 60 days of maternity leave, while those in the public sector enjoy 90 days of maternity leave. The Malaysian 2020 Budget introduced an extension for private employees, extending their maternity leave to 98 days, starting on January 1, 2023.
